Florida’s Key West has plenty to offer: exhilarating experiences, relaxing treatments and beautiful sights. We take a look at just a few of these as we explore the holiday destination.
For the adrenaline junkies, JetPack Adventures offers visitors to the Keys the chance to take part in their high velocity water sport which, according to firm representative Erik Adams, is the only place in the USA where one can do this. Controlling your own take-off, flight, turns and landing – you are your own pilot. Ninety minutes with the new JetLev R200 costs $249 per person (including training, safety briefs and equipment). Find out more at the Jet Pack Adventures website.
For something more relaxing, try yoga.
Yoga is an extremely popular past time in Florida Keys, and can be enjoyed in different ways tailored to your needs.
Yoga on the Sea offers a two-hour Yoga Sunset Boat Trip comprised of a short cruise from and hour-long yoga session with expert Sandy Hastings. This is accompanied with meditation, wine and hors d’oeuvres at the cost of $64 per person. Lazy Dog offers a similar experience of two hours split between ‘paddling’ and yoga. These sessions use chanting, breathing exercises and changing postures, are open for those of all experience levels and cost approximately $30.
If you just want to do some sightseeing, a drive across the historic Overseas Highway is another great way to spend your time in Florida Keys. Once claimed as the eighth wonder of the word, the highway bridges the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, offering stunning views for those who cross it.
Key West not only has a wealth of variety in terms of activities on offer, but also embraces a strong community spirit. As a part of this, the district’s Photo Adventure site invites visitors and residents to submit their best Key West photographs on a monthly basis.
The site – which is both user-friendly and lists expert tips from professionals – presents an ‘image of the month’ that best captures the essence of Key West. This is a great website to understand what the area is all about as well as to get involved yourself as a visiting tourist!
