Amazon withdraws ‘sissy’ insult calendar

Joe King’s ‘I’m Just a Sissy’ calendar withdrawn after widespread protests from bloggers and GLAAD
The sissy calendar by Joe King insulted gay men and transgender women and those with HIV and AIDS.

Amazon.com has stopped selling a calendar by an anti-gay cartoonist after days of pressure from LGBT activists.

The calendar – named I’m Not Gay, I’m Just a Sissy: 12 Months of Sexual Confusion – was by the self-proclaimed ‘Christian cartoonist’ Joe King.

The US-based Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation criticized the calendar for its stereotypical images of gay men, transgender women and the LGBT community in general.

It also mocks people who are living with HIV or have AIDS.

After complaints it was pulled from leading US bookstore Barnes & Noble on Wednesday (28 December). Amazon continued to sell it, but have now withdrawn it without commenting further.

A Change.org petition demanding they did so had attracted over 2,000 signatures.

Lauren Dombrowski who signed commented: ‘Even if this calendar weren't horridly offensive, I'd sign this petition for it being pathetically unfunny.’

The Daily Kos website claims King had comments of his own on what was happening.

He complained about his treatment on his own Facebook page saying: ‘Hell hath no fury like a he/she scorned… Ironic who the real bullies are isn't it?’

He admits that he is scorning LGBT and AIDS people. Then he complains about being "bullied"?? He needs to get a life, and learn some manners while he's at it.
