Anti-gay activist charged with child molestation
A California based anti-gay activist who fund-raised to protect that state’s ban on same-sex marriage has been charged with molesting underage boys over a 30 year period
A high profile California based anti-gay activist has been arrested over allegations he molested underage boys he met through his church for over three decades.
Caleb Hasse met the majority of his alleged victims through a youth group he volunteered with at the Yucca Valley, California, based Evangelical Free Church.
Hasse has been involved with the church group since the early 1980’s and was also employed as a teacher by the Morongo United School District since 1987.
He was employed as a first grade teacher at the Friendly Hills Elementary School in Joshua Tree until recently.
Hesse, 52, was charged on suspicion of lewd acts with a child under the age of 14 and is being held on $2.5 million bail.
Hesse initially confessed to sexually abusing ‘numerous underage boys’ according to reports but pleaded not guilty at his arraignment hearing.
Hesse was a donor to the ballot initiative campaign that stripped same-sex attracted Californians of their right to marry and owns the website ProtectMarriage.com which has been used to gather funds to defend legal challenges to California’s ban on same-sex marriage.
The Evangelical Free Church requires homosexual members to have abstained from sex for at least 5 years before they may participate in the church.
Hesse was scheduled to appear in court on August 27 and detectives from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department are calling on anyone else who may have knowledge of Hesse’s inappropriate contact with underage boys to come forward.
