The New York Police Department(NYPD) are searching for a man in connection with an anti-gay attack in which the victim was slashed with a razor.

The NYPD say a 22-year-old man was attacked inside a McDonalds on West 3rd Street on Wednesday (19 September).

According to police reports, the attacker made anti-gay comments to the victim before the incident turned physical and the suspect took out a blade.

The victim was slashed in the face, back, neck and elbow. He was then taken to Bellevue Hospital Center and needed stitches to close his multiple wounds.

The police are looking for a black man, between 35-40 years old, around 5 feet 9 inches (175cm), who weighs between 300-350 pounds (150kg).

It is the same McDonalds that was the scene of an anti-gay attack in 2011, when aspiring dancer Damian Furtch was brutally beaten by two men.

Furtch was allegedly harassed inside the fast-food restaurant for wearing bright shoelaces and a fluorescent jacket, both of which were part of his uniform at a restaurant, before being beaten up outside.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect above is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on +1(0)800 577 8477.
