Last night, 7 July, Rep. Barney Frank married Jim Randy, his long term partner.
The ceremony, as reported by Politco.com, was held in the Boston Marriott. Deval Patrick, the governor of the northeastern US state Massachusetts, officiated the ceremony.
Frank is the first member sitting member of Congress to have a same-sex marriage.
The Democrat, who is not running for reelection, explained in an earlier interview with New York magazine why he was tying the knot before leaving office.
'I want to get married. I do think, to be honest, if I was running for reelection, I might have tried to put the marriage off until after the election, because it just becomes a complication. But I did want to get married while I was still in office. I think it’s important that my colleagues interact with a married gay man.'
