Battleship Xmas video: Round two

Another chance to watch the viral HMS Ocean Christmas video - because GSN loves a camp sing-a-long

Battleship Xmas video: Round two
24 December 2012

Gay Star News loved this video so much last year that we decided to release it this Christmas as well.

The HMS Ocean battleship’s camp mime-along to Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas became a YouTube hit.

And gay celebrities got in on the excitement, with Lord of the Rings star Sir Ian McKellen sharing it with Anthony Cotton – from long-running TV soap Coronation Street and the original UK Queer As Folk.

‘It was glorious and made me laugh and cry with joy,’ said Cotton, who put the link out via Twitter.

So just in case you missed out on this video last year, don’t miss it this time round. If you did see it last year, let the video get you in the Christmas spirit for a second time round.

The film sees the crew of the Royal Navy ship performing the Carey song in various different locations, from the deck to the offices to the showers.

The singer Carey has also given the song her endorsement, telling the Ocean crew: ‘This is the best thing I’ve ever seen, you guys just made my day!’
And it’s had over 1million YouTube hits so far.

HMS ocean is an amphibious assault ship, also known as a helicopter landing platform, in the British Royal Navy.

It was initially deployed on a seven-week training exercise in April but was then diverted to Libya to support the UN air mission there against Gaddafi.

The crew are returning home to Plymouth today after their seven-month deployment and over 1,000 friends and family are expected to be there to meet them.
