Canadian gay porn channel warned over not showing more local content

The Canadian Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission is concerned that porn channel Maleflixxx is not showing enough Canadian made gay porn and wants it to meet its quota for local content

Canadian gay porn channel warned over not showing more local content
07 March 2014

Canada’s Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is concerned that Canadian gay porn channel Maleflixxx is not meeting its quota for locally produced content and has asked the channel to screen more Canadian gay porn.

TV channels have to agree to at least 35% of their programming to be Canadian made and Maleflixxx has been singled out along with two straight porn channels for failing to meet that target.

The CRTC raised the issue after Maleflixxx’s parent company Channel Zero sought to renew licenses for all three channels.

The CRTC will review the “instances of apparent non-compliance” at an April 28 hearing in Gatineau, Quebec – according to the National Post.

Channel Zero was also criticized for not providing sufficient closed captions for the hearing impaired on its porn channels – an issue regulators have been raising with the channels since 2012.
