Chandler Massey on Sunday (16 June) won his second consecutive Daytime Emmy Award for his performance as gay teen Will Horton on the NBC soap Days of Our Lives.

Among the competition in Massey’s category of outstanding performance by a younger actor was Freddie Smith who plays his boyfriend Sonny Kiriakis on the show. It was Smith’s third nomination and Massey’s third.

Massey paid tribute to Smith backstage calling him ‘an absolutely phenomenal actor and a phenomenal person. I’m lucky to be able to work alongside of him.’

The scenes that won the Emmy for the actor are from last year’s emotional and gripping coming out story. Will kisses another guy for the first time, freaks out a little bit, then goes to his supportive grandmother Marlena (Deidre Hall) for a heart-to-heart.

Days of Our Lives also won the Daytime Emmy in the coveted category of outstanding drama.
