Charlie Hunnam: Gay sex scenes on Queer As Folk helping me on 50 Shades of Grey

Queer As Folk star Charlie Hunnam is confident he’ll have no problem with the explicit script for the big-screen adaption of the steamy worldwide bestseller
50 Shades of Grey star Charlie Hunnam has said his Queer As Folk past is helping him on filming his new movie.

British actor Charlie Hunnam has said gay sex scenes are helping him out as he stars as Fifty Shades of Grey’s lead male.

The 33-year-old has looked back at his first acting job, a gay series called Queer As Folk, and said it probably couldn’t get harder than that.

‘My first job was on a Channel 4 miniseries called Queer As Folk. [There were] incredibly explicit sexual scenes with a man,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘So if I could do it when I was 18 with a guy, I can certainly do it at 33 with a lady.’

The groundbreaking drama hit British TV in 1999 with its then graphic depiction of the life and loves of three young guys in Manchester’s gay village.

Currently starring in hit US show Sons of Anarchy, the British actor was initially cautious about the part of Christian Grey.

He discussed it with the films director, Sam Taylor-Johnson and ‘felt really intrigued and excited about it.’

His girlfriend, who ‘loved the books’, also helped him decide to take the role.

Adapted from the EL James novel, Fifty Shades of Grey will be released in August 2014.
