Dan Savage takes on the gay marriage dispute between the Cheney sisters

'It’s funny that you need a Dick to adjudicate a dispute between a lesbian and straight sister'
Columnist and author Dan Savage

Gay columnist Dan Savage offered scathing commentary about the argument between sisters Liz and Mary Cheney.

The author of the recent book American Savage was a guest on the HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher. He was asked what he thought about the Cheney sisters very public dispute about gay marriage.

'It’s funny that you need a Dick to adjudicate a dispute between a lesbian and straight sister,' Savage said, as reported by Raw Story.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is the father to the two women.

Liz Cheney, who is in an uphill battle for a US Senate seat in Wyoming, publicly announced she was against same-sex marriage despite her lesbian sister Mary being in one.

Mary Cheney and her wife, Heather Poe, went on Facebook to express their disagreement.

While Maher defended the married lesbians, Savage reminded Mary Cheney supported Mitt Romney in the 2012 White House race. The Republican nominee wanted a constitutional amendment outlawing gay marriage in the entire US, including states where it was legal.

'Unlike her sister, Liz, who’s saying "it’s a state issue," Romney wanted to rewrite the US Constitution to ban same-sex marriage in every state, even overturning gay marriages in states where it had already been legalized,' Savage said. 'Romney was 1,000 times worse than Liz, and Mary wrote that fucker a check.'
