For the past three years, film and Broadway star Daniel Radcliffe has been a high-profile supporter of the Trevor Project which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.
Radcliffe has made a new Public Service Announcement for the organization which premiered on Tuesday (21 February) in the US after the airing of an episode of Glee which focused on the attempted suicide of Dave Karofsky, a former bully who is struggling with his sexuality.
In the 30-second PSA, Radcliffe says: 'I'm Daniel Radcliffe, and I believe that reaching out for help is the bravest thing a person can do. If you are struggling and need support, call the Trevor Lifeline at 1-866-488-7386. It's free and confidential, and trained counselors are there to listen 24/7 without judgment.'
The star of the Harry Potter films and recent headliner in the Broadway musical How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying says his work with the Trevor Project has taught him how important it is to be a straight ally.
'When we let someone know that we accept them for who they are and that we are safe to talk to, we can help save lives,' he said in a statement. 'It's as simple as that.'
