Daytime Emmy Awards nominations announced
09 May 2012

Chandler Massey, who portrays gay teen Will Horton on the NBC soap Days of Our Lives, was among those to receive a Daytime Emmy Award nomination which were announced Wednesday (9 May) morning.

Although it has been in recent months that Will has had his most dramatic scenes – including his first kiss with another man, coming out to himself then his grandmother and best friend – the nomination is for scenes that aired last September.

Massey tells Gay Star News: ‘I feel great, it was good news. It’s such an honor to be nominated and it is much appreciated.’

It is the second consecutive nomination for the young star who joined the show in 2010. He is competing in the category of Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series against Eddie Alderson (ABC’s One Life to Live), and Chad Duell and Nathan Parsons (both of ABC’s General Hospital).

Massey’s nomination is one of 15 for Days of Our Lives which is among the four shows competing for Outstanding Drama Series.

So how much does Massey want to win?

‘I think just being nominated is nice,’ he insists. ‘The work is already done. At the end of the day, I’m proud of the work.’

In other nominations of LGBT interest: The Ellen DeGeneres Show received 12 nominations including one of Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show. But host Ellen DeGeneres was not nominated for Outstanding Host, an award she has won in the past.

Instead, the category consists of: Anderson Cooper (Anderson), Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa (Regis & Kelly), Rachael Ray (Rachael Ray), Dr. Mehmet Oz (The Dr. Oz Show) and the six hosts of The Doctors.

The openly gay Nate Berkus, whose The Nate Berkus Show has been canceled after two seasons, was nominated in the category of Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host. His competition includes Paula Deen, Sandra Lee, Rick Bayless and Giada De Laurentiis.

The Daytime Emmys will take place on Saturday, June 23 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
