Shortly after the death of Nelson Mandela was annunced today (5 December), the twitterverse immediately was flooded with tributes to the great South African leader.
Among those tweeting out were various gay, lesbian and bisexual celebrities.
'Today we lost the world’s greatest advocate for peace and change,' wrote Ellen DeGeneres. 'Nelson Mandela was a hero to so many. Rest in peace.'
Dustin Lance Black, who has been in the news this week for his trip to Russia and his reported romance with Olympic diver Tom Daley wrote: 'One of my greatest heros has left this world. He changed the world. He changed my life. Sad day.'
Actress Maria Bello, who came out as bisexual in a newspaper column this week, tweeted that she was 'very sad' and was sitting with partner Clare Munn.
