Elton John gives Madonna advice for Super Bowl

Rocket Man tells Material Girl to 'lip-synch good'

Elton John couldn't resist making a dig at Golden Globes foe Madonna when asked in an interview Monday (30 January) if he had any advice for the Material Girl when she performs her Super Bowl half-time show.

'Make sure you lip-synch good,' John said on ABC's Good Morning America.

The singer is not a fan of the Super Bowl half-time spectacle saying 'I've never seen a decent one.' But he later said he enjoyed when Prince and the Rolling Stones performed them.

John began a feud with Madonna two weeks ago at the Golden Globe Awards when he was asked on the red carpet by a television interviewer to handicap the best original song field that included him and Madonna, among others: ‘Mary J [Blige] might win it for The Help. Madonna doesn’t have a [expletive] chance.’

After Madonna was announced as the winner, John's husband David Furnish wrote on Facebook: “Madonna. Best song???? F— off!!!”

Ironically, John will also be seen during the Super Bowl telecast. He plays a king - attired in elaborate robes and a crown -in a new commercial for Pepsi that also features recent X-Factor winner Melanie Amaro.

'The Super Bowl is always an event no matter where you are in the world,' he said. 'It's a great American tradition.'

John does have a rooting interest when the New England Patriots face off against the New York Giants on Feb. 5. He is friends with Patriots owner Robert Kraft who lost his wife, Myra, to cancer last summer.

'I'd love for The Patriots to win for her,' he said.
