Gay British comic Matt Lucas will guest star in the acclaimed US sitcom Community.

According to a TVLine report, the actor has landed a multi-episode guest-starring role in the NBC comedy celebrated for its pop culture references and quick-witted writing.

The show follows a group of seven students who attend a slightly less than functional community college in Greendale, Colorado.

Initial reports claimed Lucas would be playing a history professor who used to teach at Oxford University, but his role has yet to be determined.

Lucas is perhaps best known to American audiences as playing Kristen Wiig’s invasive roommate in the 2011 film Bridesmaids.

He also co-created and starred in comedy series Little Britain and Come Fly With Me with Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams.

An American version of Little Britain later aired on HBO.

The fourth season of Community, which will begin airing on 19 October, will be the first without show runner and creator Dan Harmon.

After clashing with the network, Harmon was fired prompting many fans to fear the end of their beloved comedy.

Other guest stars in the comedy have included Hollywood actor Jack Black, singer Katharine McPhee, and The Golden Girls’ Betty White.
