Gay icon Cher perform at the Sochi Olympics?
Not going to happen.
The singer tells Canada’s Maclean’s magazine that she turned down an opportunity to perform in the country with a controversial anti-gay propaganda law.
Cher, whose first album of new material in more than a decade comes out this month, said she was asked to participate in opening ceremonies.
'I can’t name names but my friend called who is a big oligarch over there, and asked me if I’d like to be an ambassador for the Olympics and open the show,' Cher said.
'I immediately said no.'
She adds: 'I want to know why all of this gay hate just exploded over there. He said the Russian people don’t feel the way the government does.'
