The popular pornstar and gay rights supporter passed away on Saturday from complications around peritonitis
Popular gay Japanese pornstar Masaki Koh died on Saturday (18 May) aged 29 from complications arising from surgery for peritonitis.
News of Koh’s death was announced on his website.
‘The tragic news has been announced by his partner, Tien Tien, who revealed that Koh was receiving treatments from a ruptured cecal (which is considered the beginning of the large intestine) due to peritonitis and has had surgery several times since last month,’ said the statement.
‘This is a sad day not only for us but also for his family, partner, and friends who have always supported his career. We will always love you Koh Masaki.’
A later message on the website announced that the administrator was re-opening the site’s chat forums ‘for all Koh Masaki fans to be able to bring their thoughts together’.
Over the last months Koh tweeted about his operations and cravings for ‘roast, pizza, curry, deep-fried food and Chinese’. He said he asked his doctors not to leave a scar on his stomach because he is a model. His last tweet, saying he’d recovered to the point he could drink water again, was sent on 8 May.
Koh was a vocal supporter of LGBT rights. When a lesbian couple held a wedding in Tokyo Disneyland in March he said ‘your wonderful wedding will bring inspiration and hope to many people who still hesitate to take the first step’.
In April 2012 he travelled to Taiwan to star in a safe-sex event in Ximenting, Taipei’s gay bar area.
Here is a touching interview recorded by Vice TV with Koh and his Chinese boyfriend Tien Tien that was released three months ago:
