Local cable company accidentally inserts wrong programming after fixing cut cable lines

Gay porn interrupts Canadian morning news
21 April 2012

As Canadians were sipping their morning coffee, they were shocked to discover yesterday (20 April) their morning news had been switched to gay pornography.

The unscheduled change in broadcasting at 9.30am, which affected local broadcast station CHCH-TV in Hamilton, Ontario, lasted for roughly three minutes as programmers frantically tried to fix the problem.

Vice-president of news at CHCH Mike Katrycz apologised to viewers, and blamed a local cable company which inadvertently inserted the wrong programming after fixing cut cable lines.

He said: ‘Apparently some cable lines had been cut, and in the splicing back together some inappropriate content went to air. Again it was beyond the control of CHCH, but we do apologize to our viewers.’

Explaining it had never happened once in his 30 years as a broadcaster, Katrycz also confirmed the pornography aired in the capital Ottawa through a repeated CHCH transmitter.

Shocked viewers complained to the station and #chch was soon trending on Twitter in Canada.

Jesse Hawken, who tweets using @jessehawken, said: ‘I heard the first episode of #CHCH's news show 'Morning Wood' was cancelled after only 3 minutes.’

Anthony Urciuoli, who uses the handle @AnthonyUrchTLR, wrote: ‘Thinking about filing a lawsuit with #CHCH for making me question my sexuality’.
