Gay San Diego man suffers broken eye socket and ribs during savage attack with baseball bat

'I literally thought I was going to die ... they were beating me that bad'

Dwayne Wynn feels lucky to be alive.

The San Diego man was beaten with a baseball bat by a group of men who he says randomly attacked him because he is gay.

The attack on Sunday (22 December) occurred in the city's gay neighborhood of Hillcrest and left Wynn with a broken eye socket, three cracked ribs and fractured fingers.

'I’ve never been that scared in my entire life,' Wynn tells San Diego's ABC affiliate. 'I literally thought I was going to die. I thought they were going to kill me. They were beating me that bad.'

Wynn says the men pulled up behind him in a truck before getting out and he turned around after hearing one of them yell an anti-gay slur.

It all happened so fast that he is unable to provide police with a description of his attackers or their vehicle.

But he remembers that they enjoyed beating him.

'I was laying there, I was covered in blood and I could hear them literally high fiving each other as they're walking to their truck.'
