Conservative radio host Glenn Beck has declared the climate of homophobia in Russia to be ‘hetero-fascism,’ likening it to Nazi Germany, and says he will stand with gay activists against it
Conservative US radio host Glenn Beck has likened the mood against homosexuals in Russia to that of Nazi Germany towards Jewish people in response to comments by Russian actor Ivan Okhlobystin that he thinks gay people should be burned alive.
Beck made the comments on CNN while talking about the controversy over Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson’s recent comments about homosexuality – saying they paled in comparison to what was happening in Russia.
‘Do you know what’s happening in Russia? One of their biggest stars on television said that homosexuals should be put into the ovens alive,’ Beck told CNN’s SE Cupp.
‘I didn’t think you could make the Holocaust worse but he’s like “Why the gas chamber? That seems a little too humane. Let’s put them alive in the oven.”’
‘I will stand with GLAAD. I will stand with anybody who will stand up and say that’s crazy. That’s dangerous. That’s hetero-fascism. That’s what that is. And we’re talking about Duck Dynasty Really? Really?’
It’s not the first time that Beck has spoken out about the treatment of LGBTIs in Russia, with Beck last month criticizing US President Barack Obama for saying he will not attend the Sochi Winter Olympics – saying he should instead go and walk ‘arm in arm’ with the US’ openly gay athletes.
