Sam Champion, the weather anchor on ABC’s Good Morning America, is getting married to male partner Rubem Robierb later this year.

The engagement was reported in a New York Times profile on Champion’s friend, MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts, who married longtime partner Patrick Abner last weekend.

‘Hey @SamChampion congrats to YOU and Rubem – can’t wait to dance at your wedding. Love ya buddy!’ Thomas tweeted Friday (5 October).

Champion and Robierb, a photographer, were among the 170 guests at the Thomas-Abner wedding.

‘We’re getting married New Year’s Eve in Miami,” Mr. Champion said in the spirit of the moment.

Robierb corrected him: ‘We’ll do it here officially, and then have a party in Miami.’

Champion, 51, has not been known to be very public about his sexuality in the past but that appears to have changed as of today with this tweet: ‘I’ve never been happier to share a bit of personal news!’

The tweet included a link to a YahooNews.com story announcing the engagement.

‘We are thrilled and so excited and thank everyone for their good wishes,’ Champion says.
