Grandfather disowns daughter after daughter disowns gay son

In an incredible letter, he tells her: ‘You’re correct that we have a “shame in the family”, but are mistaken about who it is'
A grandfather has taken in his gay grandson after his mother kicked him out.

Most of us know family can be the hardest to come out to, and it is even harder when the reaction is not the one you want.

And when a parent is as heartless to throw a gay child out onto the streets, that son or daughter is often alone and homeless.

But in the case of one teen called Chad, his grandfather could not believe his daughter Christine could disown her child.

‘You’re correct that we have a “shame in the family”, but are mistaken about who it is,’ he says.

In an incredible letter, he tells her Chad did not make the choice to be gay, but she had the choice of being ‘narrow-minded’.

Check out the full letter (and transcription if you can't read it) below:

'Dear Christine:

‘I’m disappointed in you as a daughter. You’re correct that we have a “shame in the family”, but mistaken about what it is.

‘Kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real “abomination” here.

‘A parent disowning her child is what goes “against nature”.

‘The only intelligent thing I heard you saying in all this was that “you didn’t raise your son to be gay”. Of course you didn’t. He was born this way and didn’t chase it any more than he being left-handed.

‘You however, have made a choice of being hurtful, narrow-minded and backward.

‘So, while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I’ll take this moment to say goodbye to you.

‘I now have a fabulous (as the gays put it) grandson to raise, and I don’t have time for a heartless B-word of a daughter.

‘If you find your heart, give us a call

- Dad’

You are the kind of granparent this young man really needed at this very difficult time in his life. His mother is going to miss the people he will love and fall out with. His life is not who shares his bed with it is about what he achieves in life as a whole. He is going to be a great asset to someone one day. Good luck to you both. From a gay man in the UK

Thank you for a wonderful blog. Your suggestions are so helpful. I've been journaling for quite some time and it helps me to write down my prayer for the day and helps me focus. As for meditating, I like to play a CD with nature or ocean sounds. It's very calming. | |

Well done Grandpa!! This is what family is all about, standing by one another no matter what & giving support when needed!!,
Hes a lucky boy to have you in his life, some are not so lucky.

That's an awesome grandpa. I feel sorry for how the kid must feel having been treated by his mother that way, but at least he will still have a home and someone that will care for him no matter what.

A man who knows the meaning of family. Unlike his daughter.

That is one loving grandfather! God bless, and good on ya!
