It's rumored that Annise Parker, Houston's lesbian mayor, will marry Kathy Hubbard, her long time partner of 23 years.
An unnamed source told website CultureMap the couple will travel to Palm Beach, California in January for a ceremony.
'I heard it from her [Parker's] own lips,' the source said, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
Parker is serving her third, and final, term as the mayor of the fourth-largest city in the US. In the past she said she and Hubbard, a tax-preparer, would wed when gay marriage became legal in Texas.
However, recently Parker hinted she might change her mind due to the Supreme Court's ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act.
The mayor's office downplays the whispers.
'The mayor very much appreciates the interest in the 23-year relationship she has shared with her life partner, First Lady Kathy Hubbard,' spokeswoman Jessica Michan said in a statement. 'However, marriage is a private matter and she has no announcements she wishes to make at this time. If that changes, we will let you know.'
The pair met in 1990. In 1993 they took in Jovon Tyler, who was kicked out of his grandparent's house because he was gay. Tyler refers to both women as 'mom.'
In 2003 the couple adopted two sisters, Marquitta, now in her late teens, and Daniela, now in her early 20s.
