iPhone app helps trans find gender neutral toilets

TranSquat allows users in US, Canada and the UK avoid embarrassment by locating the nearest safe restroom

iPhone app helps trans find gender neutral toilets
27 July 2012

A new smart phone app aims to help transgender people find their nearest gender neutral toilet.

TranSquat allows iPhone users with GPS to search, add and share nearby safe locations with other people.

Powered by safe2pee, the app lists 4,000 locations across the US, Canada and the UK.

According to the US-based National Transgender Discrimination Survey, 22% of trans employees were denied access to the gender appropriate toilet at work.

The Transgender Equality website claims many in the transgender community face embarrassment, stress and threats when using public restrooms.

The website also claims refusing to go to the toilet can lead to health problems such as urinary tract infections.

The app is available to download now for $2.99.
