Jesse Klaver is one of the fast-rising stars of Dutch politics.
The 30-year-old just helped his party, the Dutch GreenLeft, to nearly quadruple their seats in Parliament from four to 14.
For the first time, they are the biggest party on the left wing of Dutch politics. They are also very pro-LGBTI and, together with the D66, want to reimburse people who are considered to be at a high risk of contracting HIV but are taking, or want to take, PrEP.
Their success is mainly being attributed to their curly-haired, rule-breaking party leader.
Uncharacteristically for the Netherlands, the GreenLeft held town hall meetings. At first, they didn’t draw much of a crowd, so they began to call them meetups – which worked like a charm and helped create a personality-led mass movement.
And people are definitely picking up on the fact that Klaver, who married his wife in 2013, looks a lot like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Just look at them giving party speeches.
They look so similar, the might as well be brothers.
It could be the swoopy hair, or the power poses. Although Klaver is more likely to have gotten the latter from Barack Obama, whom his tradition-breaking campaign was inspired by.
And much like his Canadian big brother, he seems to have a lot of fun doing his job as party leader.
Not to mention the ‘Dutch Trudeau’ seems to be quite sporty…
Does that pose remind you of someone?
…and he’s definitely a doting dad for his two little sons.
So much so they’re sometimes rocking matching outfits.
Klaver also perfected the skill of taking selfies with fans and campaigners.
And sometimes, he just looks longingly into the distance. Which is fine with us, too.
