Know your herstory: Relive the most epic lip sync to Holding Out For A Hero ever
Tandi Iman Dupree is a part of drag herstory

If RuPaul’s Drag Race teaches us anything, it’s to know our herstory.

And so that’s why we were so happy to see Holding Out For a Hero chosen as a lip sync for your life song on episode three of season 9.

And while the bottom two queens may have done their best to turn it out, they paled in comparison to the best ever performance to the classic track.

For we have Tandi Iman Dupree – pageant queen and superstar.

Back at the 2001 Miss Gay Black America pageant, her performance of the Bonnie Tyler song went viral. It reached over one million YouTube views and has been seen many more times than that in gifs around the world.

It began with Dupree’s dancing partner searching for her, but as he exited the stage the camera centers in the middle.

Dupree then enters, dropping from the ceiling, landing on stage in a perfect split.

Sadly, Dupree died from complications due to AIDS in 2005. But she will forever live in our hearts as a Wonder Woman.
