The pro-gay anthem, co-written by Mary Lambert, has been nominated for 'Song of the Year'
US hip-hop artists Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis have received a Grammy nomination for their pro-gay anthem, ‘Same Love’.
The duo, who have also been nominated for album of the year and best new artist, opened ‘The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!’ on Friday night with their hit song, ‘Thrift Shop’.
They received seven nominations in total: Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, Best Music Video.
Mary Lambert, who collaborated with Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis on their pro-gay hit, was ecstatic at the Grammy nomination.
In an excited tweet to her followers, she said: ‘DID I JUST GET NOMINATED FOR SONG OF THE YEAR FOR THE GRAMMYS. DID THIS JUST HAPPEN DID THIS REAL I CANT EVEN I’M NOT EVEN.’
Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis have been longtime supporters of the LGBTI community.
In November, they joined the UN Free and Equal Campaign, which encourages greater support and respect for LGBTI people around the world.
