LGBTI nominations scarce at 2014 Oscars

While Jared Leto looks set to win Best Supporting Actor, lesbian love French film Blue Is The Warmest Color was snubbed at the Academy Awards
Jared Leto is nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards.

This year’s nominations at the 2014 Academy Awards of interest to LGBTI viewers are few and far between this year.

Jared Leto is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a trans woman with AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club, and is likely to be the front-runner following his win at the Golden Globes.

Philomena, a British film about a mother’s 50-year search for her gay son, scooped three nominations including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actress for star Judi Dench.

Blue Is The Warmest Color, perhaps one of the most controversial and still loved French films of recent memory, was snubbed and received zero nominations.

While some critics were hoping the film boasting a seven-minute sex scene were hoping for star Léa Seydoux to be tipped for Best Actress, they were expecting at least a Best Foreign Film nomination.
