Lana Wachowski, famed for directing the Matrix series with brother Andy, has come out as a transgender woman in a promotional video for her new movie.

Formerly known as Larry, the filmmaker appeared wearing a dress with purple shoulder length dreadlocks to introduce the trailer for Cloud Atlas.

‘Hi, I’m Lana,’ said the 47-year-old, who the New York Post claimed has been ‘transitioning’ for years.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, Cloud Atlas tells the story of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future.

Its stars Tom Hanks and Halle Berry reportedly swap identities and gender in the film.
