Professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter Fallon Fox was at a party celebrating a victory on Saturday (2 March) when she got a phone call she had dreaded for years.
It was from a reporter who knew she is a transgender woman.
'For years I've known at some point it's very likely the shoe would drop,' she told Outsports this week. 'Maybe someone would guess that I'm trans. Maybe they would know me from my life before I transitioned. I've been waiting for that phone call to happen. And Saturday night, it happened.'
She began her transition a decade ago with hormone therapy and six years ago, had gender reassignment surgery.
Now that it has come out that she is a transgender woman, Fox is worried that her professional fighting career might be in jeopardy. She is also aware that some might try and dismiss her success because she was born a male.
'With a little more education, they might be able to see that they're wrong,' she says.
'I'm technically, legally, physically and mentally female,' she adds. 'Everything about me is female.'
