Molly Ringwald is about to be part of a storyline unlike anything anything she did as the teen star of such classic 80s films as Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink.

The actress, now 44, is going to have a lesbian fling with a new female character on ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager, according to TVLine.com.

She has starred as Anne Juergens on the series, now in its fourth season, since 2008. During the show’s first season, it is discovered that Anne’s 15-year-old daughter Amy is pregnant.

The show already has a lesbian character: Nora, the birth mother of the baby’s father. But that is not who Anne will become involved with.

Also featured throughout the show’s first three seasons was the character of gay teen Griffin played by Brando Eaton.
