NFL player Jonathan Vilma worried a gay teammate would check him out in the shower

'I get dressed, naked, taking a shower, the whole nine, and it just so happens he looks at me, how am I supposed to respond?'

No player in the history of the National Football League has ever publicly come out as gay during their playing days.

If one ever decides to do so, New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma isn't so sure it would go over so well.

'I think he would not be accepted as much as we think he would be accepted,' Vilma told the NFL Network.

But, he adds: 'I don't want people to just naturally assume, oh, we're all homophobic. That's really not the case.'

It seems to all come down to the locker room in the eyes of the 30-year-old player who has played in the league for eight years.

Says Vilma: 'Imagine if he's the guy next to me, and you know, I get dressed, naked, taking a shower, the whole nine, and it just so happens he looks at me, how am I supposed to respond?'

I dunno what "the whole nine" means, but I presume the locker room is full of naked men doing more or less the same things after a game; is Vilma suggesting that the straight men don't look at each other? I have a great big news flash for him: somewhere along the line he's been "checked out" in the locker room by a gay guy and he never even knew about it.

This guy's a complete ass.

Its always he ones people dont want with the biggest 'WHAT IF"s! Has he looked in the lockeroom mirror? #bigotgetyourlife

He must be afraid he could get excited & respond with a hard on!

He should be worried that no gay players will check him out.

I like how he states that everyone on the team is not homophobic. Well clearly you have some type of underlying issues about another team player you are suspicious of. How does one define someone else's sexuality just by a look in a shower. You never said he just stared. You stated looked at you. So that just nominates him as a gay man??

Str8 men in my gym stand nude often in the locker room running their lips on politics. It just baffles me that he caught the man when he looked at him. You would have to be looking back or in his direction to catch him looking your way.. Then he is not even all that with those animated teeth...Those teeth look like that character Mater from that Walt Disney movie, Cars!!!!!!!

His is the irrational fear often cited. It's guaranteed he's grown up using locker rooms and public restrooms with gay males. It's not as if there are separate ones. Gay males also have grown up in the same environment and we know how to appropriately conduct ourselves. We're not turned on sexually at all times and nudity isn't necessarily sexual. Therefore, how does your knowledge that someone identifies as gay, change anything? I can't see how it does so. You were already changing beside the person in perfect peace and harmony before you knew.

He's concerned a gay teammate will check him out and take pass... or chuckle derisively. He's even more scared that he would get turned on.
