It's been more than a week since Kirk Cameron made his now infamous remarks that homosexuality is 'unnatural, 'detrimental,' and 'ultimately destructive.'
But reaction to his words continues including a lecture to the former Growing Pains star from Rosie O'Donnell who called Cameron's words 'very un-Christ-like.'
'If you want to follow the Jesus model, don't go shaming people like that for who they are,' O'Donnell said on a recent episode of The Rosie Show which airs on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
O'Donnell took particular issue with Cameron's remark that homosexuality is 'unnatural.'
'It's unnatural to you Kirk because you're heterosexual but it doesn't mean it's unnatural to everyone, trust me,' she said. 'If it was unnatural for gay people, we wouldn't be gay. It's not like you discover you're gay and hip-hip-hooray let's go get a free toaster.'
O'Donnell added: 'We have to listen to people like you telling us that we're responsible for the decline of civilization. If you erased all the gay people from the history of the world, the culture would be really lacking. You know that Kirk?'
She went on to point out that chances are that the make-up people who got him ready for scenes on Growing Pains for all those years were homosexual.
Cameron spoke out against the backlash last week telling ABC News: 'I should be able to express moral views on social issues, especially those that have been the underpinning of Western civilization for 2,000 years — without being slandered, accused of hate speech, and told from those who preach ‘tolerance’ that I need to either bend my beliefs to their moral standards or be silent when I’m in the public square.'
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has launched an online action (www.glaad.org/wherearetheynow) for people to sign up to tell Cameron that he’s no longer their idol.
