Drag superstar Ru Paul says she is ‘shocked and heartbroken’ by the tragic death of Sahara Davenport, one of the contestants on his TV reality show.

The 27-year-old star of Ru Paul’s Drag Race is believed to have died last night (1 October), though details are still yet to be made public.

Ru Paul has now joined hundreds of fans paying tribute to the artist, today (2 October) tweeting: ‘Shocked & heartbroken over Sahara Davenport. Never occurred to me that we’d ever lose one of my girls. I see them as immortal.’

LGBT TV channel Logo also issued a statement, sending condolences to Davenport’s family.

Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport,’ the statement read.

‘He was an amazing artist and entertainer who’ll be deeply missed by his Logo family. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, especially his boyfriend Karl, in their time of need.’

The official responses appear to dispel previous rumors that the drag queen’s death was merely an internet rumor.
