Ruth Bader Ginsburg will make history this weekend when she becomes the first US Supreme Court Justice to perform a same-sex wedding.
Ginsburg, part of the high court's liberal wing, will conduct the ceremony of Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts President Michael M. Kaiser and economist John Roberts.
The ceremony will take place at the Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington DC on Saturday (31 August).
'I think it will be one more statement that people who love each other and want to live together should be able to enjoy the blessings and the strife in the marriage relationship,' Ginsburg tells the Washington Post.
Ginsburg was among the four justices on the court who in June voted to strike down a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act and let stand a lower court ruling putting an end to California's Proposition 8.
During the DOMA case's oral arguments Ginsburg remarked that the lack of federal recognition of same-sex marriages had created 'skim-milk marriage.'
