More than 4.5 million revellers are due to descend on Sao Paulo for the Brazilian megacity's annual gay pride celebrations.

The city, which was voted one of the world's most LGBT friendly destinations in a Gaycities.com poll, ahead of London and Madrid, will host its 16th pride event between 7 June and 11 June.

The march, which will travel two and a half miles down the central Avenida Paulista, promises a carnival of colors, music and dance.

The Brazilian Tourist Board is keen to promote the country as a gay friendly destination, with Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Recife all offering a range of bars, hotels and restaurants which welcome LGBT visitors.

'LGBT tourism is a big focus for Brazil, we are seeing better travel services including new hotels and tours which cater to this market,' says Marcelo Pedroso, director of international markets at the Brazilian Tourist Board, Embratur.
