Two California men on gay cruise arrested - for having sex

Two California men who were allegedly seen having sex aboard of a cruise ship were arrested Wednesday (21 March) on the Caribbean island of Dominica where gay sex is illegal.

The men, both in their early 40s, were on a Celebrity Summit cruise ship and were arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and sodomy after someone from the dock saw them engaged in sex, according to the Associated Press.

The ship is carrying about 2,000 passengers and  had departed Puerto Rico on Saturday. It arrived in Dominica on Wednesday and is expected to soon depart to St. Barts.

The cruise was organied by Atlantis Events, a West Hollywood-based company that specializes in gay travel.

'We’re waiting to see what happens,' Atlantic Events President Rich Campbell told the AP.

Campbell was aboard the ship.

Dominica News Online has identified the men as John Robert Hart and Dennis Jay Mayer and reported that they are expected to appear in court on Thursday.

The news site reports that sources said passengers 'were informed of the laws of Dominica and they were well aware that their acts would be considered a criminal offense.'

An employee at the West Hollywood office of Atlantis Events told Gay Star News: 'All we know is what we've been reading online.' He said Campbell is the only person authorized to speak on the matter.
