US soccer star Abby Wambach marries longtime girlfriend Sarah Huffman

US soccer star Abby Wambach married longtime girlfriend and fellow soccer pro Sarah Huffman at a Hawaiian resort over the weekend, TMZ reports.

Wambach is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and the and the 2012 The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Player of the Year.

The 33-year-old currently plays for Western New York Flash in the National Women's Soccer League and for the United States women's national soccer team.

Wambach plays forward and is the highest all-time goal scorer for the national team. She also holds the world record for international goals for both female and male soccer players with 161 goals.

The ceremony took place on the beach, at sunset, at the Villas at Po'ipu Kai on the island of Kauai.

The intimate ceremony was attended by close friends and family members.

Congrats to the couple. One question though. How did they get married in Hawaii if marriage equality hasn't made it to Hawaii yet? Hasn't the governor called a special session at the end of October for marriage equality?
