A British married vicar who preached gays destroy marriage has been sacked after he destroyed his own marriage by having an affair.
Reverend Martin Howard, in his 40s, was banned from the ministry after he confessed to his superiors about his relationship with a married parishioner.
He publicly defended the ‘sanctity of marriage’ just last year when he displayed a poster at his church condemning gay marriage.
The green sign, posted outside the St Mary’s Church in Dorset, said: ‘Marriage = 1 Man + 1 Woman.’
Speaking to his local newspaper at the time, the Bournemouth Echo, he defended the poster after many described it as homophobic and inappropriate.
Howard said if gay people were allowed to marry, then they would 'destroy' the sanctity of marriage.
He added: ‘In displaying our recent poster we have wanted to state from a Christian viewpoint the traditional teaching of the Bible, and the wisdom of the ages, that society is much stronger when marriage is promoted, honoured and protected.’
But he was exposed as a hypocrite after it was discovered he was cheating on his wife with another woman.
A statement issued by the Diocese of Salisbury confirmed Howard had been banned from the ministry for five years.
