‘My name is Stephen.
‘I identify as a trans man, a faggy queen, a homosexual, a queer, a nerd fighter, a writer, an artist and a guy who needs a haircut.’
Meet Stephen Beatty, the son of Hollywood couple Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, who has recently spoken out about being transgender on WeHappyTrans.com.
In the video Beatty speaks about socially transitioning when he was 14 and although he does not mention his parents, he says he is thankful for all his friends who have supported him.
The 20-year-old speaks quickly and eloquently about his life and his inspirations.
He says even though he is a man and taking hormones, he feels lucky to be able to dress ‘femme’ and wear ribbons and necklaces. Beatty counts gay author Truman Capote as a fashion inspiration.
He says: ‘It’s nice to finally be able to have my gender being legible to people. I really am enjoying and appreciating that.’
Beatty refers to transgender icons like Alan L Hart as role models, who pioneered the use of x-ray photography in tuberculosis detection and helped save thousands of lives.
He added he would love to be a teacher and a parent one day, saying he will have babies and give them onesies with ‘This is what a transgender feminist looks like’ on them.
