Were Mick Jagger and David Bowie once lovers?
New book claims they had intense affair in the 1970s
A new biography about Mick Jagger alleges that the Rolling Stone frontman had a love affair with fellow superstar David Bowie in the 1970s.
Author Christopher Andersen writes in his book, The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger, writes that the two became fascinated with each other after meeting in 1973 and that their relationship soon became physical.
They were soon spotted everywhere together from a Muhammad Ali fight to a Diana Ross concert.
The book claims that Bowie’s wife at the time, Angie, arrived at their London home one morning after being out of town for a few days.
Andersen writes: The Bowies’ maid, who had arrived about an hour earlier, approached the lady of the house with a peculiar look on her face. ‘Someone,’ she told Angie, ‘is in your bed.’ Angie went upstairs to her bedroom, slowly pushed the door open, and there they were: Mick Jagger and David Bowie, naked in bed together, sleeping.
The author writes that Bowie’s then-wife ‘felt absolutely dead certain that they’d been screwing. It was so obvious, in fact, that I never even considered the possibility that they hadn’t been screwing.’
Andersen also writes that back-up singer Ava Cherry told a friend that ‘Mick and David were really sexually obsessed with each other. Even though I was in bed with them many times, I ended up just watching them have sex.
Cherry is reported to have said that the relationship was more than just sexual and that Jagger and Bowie were very close emotionally and practically lived together for several months.
Bowie acknowledged his bisexuality in the 70s but has never confirmed an affair with Jagger. Jagger has never confirmed having a gay affair with anyone. The two stars recorded an energetic remake of the 60s Motown hit Dancing in the Streets together in 1985. (See video below)
