Singer raising money for We Are Family Foundation

Singer Adam Lambert turns 31 today (29 January) and is using the occasion to raise money for a cause close to his heart.

The 2008 American Idol runner-up asked his fans to donate $31 to the We Are A Family Foundation which creates and supports programs that inspire and educate people about mutual respect, understanding, and appreciation of cultural diversity.

When American country star Carrie Underwood revealed she was in favor of gay marriage last year, it caused a conservative uproar.

But now she is risking the same backlash again, as the musical darling of the Conservatives in the US has reaffirmed her belief in marriage equality.

In June 2012, Underwood told British newspaper The Independent that she thinks, as a Christian, everyone should have the right to ‘love publicly’.

Gay rights champion and lesbian icon Kelly Clarkson joins Beyoncé and James Taylor at US President's inauguration ceremony

Pop star and gay rights champion Kelly Clarkson has been chosen to perform at US President Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony.

The American Idol winner will sing 'My Country Tis of Thee' at the 57th Presidential Inauguration in Washington DC on 21 January.

She will be joined by R&B superstar Beyoncé, who will sing the national anthem, and James Taylor performing 'America the Beautiful'.

Despite admitting she was a Republican at heart, Clarkson said she would vote for Democrat Obama over his support for gay marriage.

Grammy winning singer Fantasia Barrino hopes to convince people, once and for all, that she was not putting down gay marriage in a confusing Instagram rant last week.

Pop star Kelly Clarkson has had rumors surrounding her sexuality for years, but it has never bothered her.

The ‘Catch My Breath’ singer and original American Idol star continues to get the speculation, despite recently becoming engaged to her fiancé Brandon Blackstock.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan magazine, the original American Idol winner attempted to explain where the unfounded rumors could stem from.

‘People think “Oh, she’s been single for too long”,’ she said. ‘That’s kind of an insult to the gay community.

This spring will mark 10 years ago that Clay Aiken was launched to stardom after finishing as runner-up on American Idol.

He's one of the show's biggest breakout stars along with Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry.

Singer Clay Aiken paid a visit to The Dr. Oz Show Wednesday (28 November) to weigh in on controversial ex-gay reparative therapy who said he was 'heartbroken' that the topic was even being featured on the daytime syndicated show.

'Just by the nature of the name, reparative therapy, you're implying that something needs to be repaired - you're implying that something's wrong in the first place,' Aiken said. 'I think that puts people back 10 steps on their (coming out) journey and my journey took 10 years.'

Adam Lambert clearly hasn't forgiven Clay Aiken for the unkind things he had to say about him three years ago.

On Bravo's What What Happens Live Thursday (24 May), the season eight American Idol runner-up was asked to say three nice things about the man who was the runner-up during Idol's second season.

'Can't think of any,' he responded to host Andy Cohen.

Lambert was playing the show's Plead the Fifth game during which Cohen asks three provocative questions of his guests who have the option to 'plead the fifth' on all but one.

First openly gay singer to reach top spot in first week of release

Elton John and George Michael have had albums debut at number one on the Billboard charts but neither were openly gay at the time. So Adam Lambert made some history on Wednesday (23 May) when his album Trespassing opened in the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

By selling 77,000 copies, Trespassing dislodged Carrie Underwood's Blown Away and outperformed Lambert's first album, For Your Entertainment, which had debuted at number three.

Clay Aiken didn't let coming in second on American Idol more than a decade ago stop him from going on to become one of the biggest stars ever to emerge from that reality show competition.

Still, the openly gay singer was hoping to finish first on NBC's Celebrity Apprentice after making it to the finals of Donald Trump's reality show and facing off against former talk show host Arsenio Hall.

'My mother's here tonight and she's already sat through me losing once,' Aiken told the live studio audience before Trump made his final decision.

Gay singer-songwriter Will Young’s debut has topped a list of the bestselling singles of the 21st century in the UK.

Revealed by BBC Radio 1 in a list of the 150 bestselling singles, Young’s first single Evergreen/Anything Is Possible sold over 1.7 million copies.

Young slammed the double-A singles last year, calling them ‘dreadful’.

He said: ‘I can't bear 'Evergreen' or 'Anything is Possible', they're absolutely shocking. And you wouldn't believe the amount of money that was spent on those videos. F**king hell! Dreadful videos.

American Idol alum apologes for previously being coy about details

After denying reports earlier this month, Adam Lambert confirmed via Twitter on Tuesday (21 February) that he will be joining the legendary rock group Queen this summer as its lead singer at the Sonisphere Festival this summer.

Says North Carolina's Amendment One will take away protections from kids

Clay Aiken says he used to want to be governor of his home state of North Carolina.

But instead of going into politics, he became a star on American Idol and parlayed that success into a recording and stage career.

The openly gay singer, who is a single father, is using his fame to speak out against a ballot measure called Amendment One which will go before North Carolina's voters on May 8. It would ban domestic partnerships and non-marriage partner benefits for couples - gay or straight.

American Stronger singer Kelly Clarkson has told Now Magazine she is not a lesbian.

The singer, songwriter and occasional actress who made her name through TV talent contest American Idol has been subject to rumours about her sexuality but insists that if she was gay, she would just come out and say it.

She said: ‘I'm not gay. If I was, I'd say: “I love women!” That's why it drives me nuts. But I feel like even if I did say it, people would be like, ‘you're just trying to do that to win the gay audience’.’
