American Idol alum had been followed for months by documentary crew

Clay Aiken had hoped his bid to represent his home state of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives would allow him to fully transition out of show business.

Instead, it has landed him back as the star of a reality series.

Aiken, 35, lost the election decisively to Republican incumbent Renee Ellmers this week. The openly-gay Democrat had faced an uphill battle from the start in the heavily-Republican 2nd District.

Viewers will get a close-up view of Aiken's journey from announcing his candidacy back in February to election day.

Clay Aiken has lost his bid for a North Carolina seat in the US House of Representatives.

A runner-up on both American Idol and Celebrity Apprentice, Aiken found himself finishing second once again - this time to Republican incumbent Renee Ellmers.

Ellmers was leading Aiken with more than 56 percent of the vote, according to the Associated Press.

Clay Aiken has emerged with a slight lead over his closest rival in his bid for the Democratic nomination for a North Carolina seat in the US House of Representatives.

Aiken, 35, holds a slight lead of more than 300 votes over Keith Crisco but it might be some time before the final results are known.

Absentee and provisional ballots must still be counted and could potentially alter the outcome, according to the News Observer.

Aiken announced his candidacy with a campaign website and video on 5 February but it had gone largely unnoticed until he made a guest appearance on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report to discuss why he is running for office.

Brian May says Lambert 'the only singer' who can deliver as lead singer of their classic songs

Adam Lambert announced today that he will be performing with the two surviving members of the classic rock band Queen in a 19-date North American tour this summer.

Lambert appeared on ABC's Good Morning America with Brian May and Roger Taylor for the announcement.

The American Idol alum called May and Taylor 'rock royalty' and described Queen as 'one of the quintessential rock bands of all time - they have formed music no one's ever heard before.'

'They've influenced bands for years to come,' he added.

Crystal Bowersox, the singer who made it all the way to the finals of American Idol in 2010, seems to have started a trend when she quietly came out as bisexual last week on Twitter.

In the days since, actress Maria Bello came out as bi in a New York Times column and a day later Olympic diver Tom Daley did the same in a YouTube video.

But of the three, Bowersox is the only one to actually use the word 'bisexual.'

She tweeted to her followers: 'Let me set the record straight. I’m Bi. Pun intended.'

Imagine an alternative pop culture universe where Adam Lambert was cast as a kid on Glee instead of making his name on American Idol.

It could have happened.

The Grammy-nominated star says he auditioned for the Fox hit in his pre-Idol days.

'It’s funny because I actually auditioned for the show before it started before I was on Idol. The casting director was like. "Well, I love your voice but I think you’re too old to be in the show" and so I didn’t get it. And then Idol happened.'
