Says CNN anchor: 'As an adult when I got to know her I came to actually like her and appreciate her'

Joan Rivers got some laughs at Gloria Vanderbilt's expense back in the 70s and 80s but one person who wasn't laughing was the fashion icon's son.

That son grew up to be CNN anchor Anderson Cooper who recalled that period during a segment of his show Thursday (4 September) devoted to Rivers who had died earlier in the day.

'As a kid, I didn’t like her, because she actually made fun of my mom in some jokes when my mom was doing the jeans and stuff,' Cooper confessed.

'... As a little kid, I found it upsetting to see her making fun of my mom.'

The CNN anchor confirms the incident but not a report that it left him in tears

It's well known that the late Lauren Bacall did not suffer fools.

Or, it seems, teenagers who express a political opinion different from her own - even of that teenager happened to be future CNN anchor Anderson Cooper.

The year was 1982 and Cooper's mom, heiress and businesswoman Gloria Vanderbilt, had invited Bacall to a dinner at her Southampton house for actress Claudette Colbert.

Says person serving him 'looked at me like I was the loneliest, most pathetic person on the planet'

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper may be rich and famous but he's still a hard-working journalist who was on the job on his 47th birthday this week.

After doing a broadcast from Boston, he did the five-hour drive back to New York City and decided to duck into a McDonald's for a late-night birthday meal.

He ordered a Big Mac meal and 'I super-sized it because it was my birthday,' the CNN anchor told David Letterman Wednesday (4 June).

Then things got a little sad.

Jokes CNN anchor: 'This is pretty much the platinum bomb heard round the world'

So why should Anderson Cooper care at all that Adam Levine has dyed his hair platinum blond?

Well, it seems The Voice mentor's new style has invited comparisons to the CNN anchor and they are not all flattering ones.

During his occasional segment The Ridiculist this week, Cooper pointed out that someone wrote to Levine on Twitter: 'Your hair makes you look like a much more attractive Anderson Cooper.'

Levine says he doesn't know why he changed his hair but said on The Voice this week that 'it just felt right.'

CNN anchor relaxed and candid in wide-ranging interview

Anderson Cooper gave a candid, wide-ranging interview to radio host Howard Stern this week during which the CNN anchor revealed more personal details about his life than ever before.

Cooper talked about his days as a child model - a profession he entered at the age of 10 because he was worried about an impending financial collapse.

Between the ages of 10 and 13, he modeled for such brands as Macy's and Calvin Klein.

But that early career ended abruptly when he got propositioned by a male photographer who offered him $2,500 for sex.

'There weren't a lot of other reasons to be there'

Openly gay CNN anchor Anderson Cooper paid a visit to Seth Meyers' new NBC late night talk show on Monday and shared with viewers why he once thought the host was gay.

It seems Cooper, a well-known gym rat, once saw the former Saturday Night Live writer and news anchor at a gym in Manhattan and jumped to conclusions.

'It was pretty much the gayest gym on the planet,' Cooper said, 'And I assumed you were gay, ’cause… there weren’t a lot of other reasons to be there.'

Al Melvin can't think of a single example of when SB 1062 has been needed

CNN's Anderson Cooper had asked a simple question of Arizona State Senator Al Melvin.

Could the Republican lawmaker, who is running for governor of his state, think of a single example where the controversial SB 1062 bill has been needed in  Arizona?

The bill, if signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer, would make it legal for businesses to discriminate against anyone - including LGBTI people - if they say it is for religious reasons.

Melvin, who voted in favor of the anti-gay discrimination bill last week, came up empty.

Jokes Cooper: 'Wait…what? CNN hired her again? For real?'

Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin once again have a date on New Year's Eve.

The real-life besties will co-host CNN's annual live coverage from Times Square in New York for the seventh straight year.

Because of Griffin's antics during past telecasts such as dropping an f-bomb, her participation always seems be in question up until a few weeks before the broadcast.

'Wait…what? CNN hired her again? For real?' Cooper said in a tongue-in-cheek statement.

If he 'had yelled the N word ... or yelled an anti-Jewish slur against that photographer, it would be over'

After using an anti-gay slur publicly for the second time this year, Alec Baldwin had his MSNBC show pulled from the air for two weeks.

Anderson Cooper, CNN's openly gay anchor, thinks he is getting off easy.

Baldwin called a photographer who got too close to his wife and child a 'cocksucking fag' last week in an incident caught by TMZ cameras.

'If Alec Baldwin had yelled the N word to that photographer or yelled an anti-Jewish slur against that photographer, it would be over,' Cooper said Monday (18 November) on his CNN show.

Says 'there was probably a good reason behind why' Baldwin called photographer a 'cocksucking fag'

Alec Baldwin wants the world to know that he's no homophobe even if he called a photographer a 'cocksucking fag' this week.

To prove it, the former 30 Rock star brought out his gay hairdresser to vouch for him in front of a group of reporters this morning in New York City.

'Am I a homophobe?' Baldwin asked the man, who was not identified.

'Yes, bigtime,' the hairdresser jokingly replied.

30-Rock-star Alec Baldwin lashed out at gay news anchor Anderson Cooper in an unrestrained radio rant.

Baldwin said on the Howard Stern radio show yesterday:

'Anderson Cooper has a job to do. And that job is to try to reinforce his credibility in the gay community after the fact that you couldn't get him out of the closet for 10 years with a canister of tear gas. Now he's the sheriff. Now he's running around writing everybody a ticket!'

'What can I say, you try keeping a 46-year-old gay man away from Cher'

It turns out that Anderson Cooper can still get star struck and that it can happen in live television.

The CNN anchor admitted during his nightly The Ridiculist segment on his CNN show Tuesday (2 July) that his appearance with Cher on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live was a bit over the top.

He gushed that he rushed over from CNN to see her, blathered on 'like the over-eager fan that I am,' did a faux faint, told Cher he used to think she was maybe his sister and even did a very poor Cher imitation.

'I wish we had the show the first year that we ended up with the second year'

If Anderson Cooper had to do it all over again, his foray into daytime talk shows would have been more Live With Kelly and Michael from the start than a pale imitation of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Cooper's show, Anderson Live! was canceled last fall during the early weeks of its second season. But since that time, it has found its groove with a live format and a rotating array of guest co-hosts including Andy Cohen, Kathy Griffin and Kristin Chenoweth.
