President has compared one of the most famous speeches made in US history to the fight for gay, women and workers' rights tod

Barack Obama has linked one of Abraham Lincoln’s greatest speeches, the Gettysburg Address, with gay rights.

Lincoln delivered the speech, one of the most famous in US history,during the American Civil War, on the afternoon of 19 November 1863.

Now 150 years later, the sitting US president has paid tribute in a handwritten letter to Lincoln’s legacy.

He sat down and wrote a speech of the exact same length and linked it to the importance of rights for gays, workers and women.

New single Woman's World is latest success in legendary career

The new single by Cher is quickly turning into yet another big hit for the gay icon who had her first number one record back in 1965.

Woman's World has reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs Chart. This marks the eighth time Cher has topped this particular Billboard chart.

The first time was with Believe in 1998 followed the next year with two singles from the Believe album: Strong Enough and All or Nothing.

'Believe' singer will headline at Dance on the Pier, one of the biggest gay pride events in the US

Calling all gypsies, tramps and thieves, as gay icon Cher will be performing at New York Pride.

On 30 June, the ‘Dark Lady’ will be headlining this year’s 27th annual Dance on the Pier.

In addition to performing many of her hit singles from the past six decades, Cher will be performing her brand-new single ‘Woman’s World.’

Chris Frederick, managing director of NYC Pride, said he was ‘thrilled’ Cher didn’t bang bang, shot him down and could welcome her to the stage this year.

A Norwegian comedy show tricked five young fans of the Canadian heartthrob to win free tickets for his concert in Oslo

Five teen girls were the unwitting victims in a TV show’s stunt which saw them ‘convert to Islam’ in order to receive free Justin Bieber concert tickets.

On a Norwegian comedy show, the young fans were forced to remove their make-up, put on hijabs, and repeat ‘Justin Bieber is impure and probably gay’ in Arabic.

The show’s host Ann-Kat Haerland defended the show, saying: ‘We wanted to find out how far Norwegian “Beliebers” are willing to go for tickets to one of Bieber’s concert.

Britain's leading gay rights charity, Stonewall, has asked supporters to stage fundraising parties during the Eurovision song contest to stamp out homophobia worldwide.

Believe singer fuels speculation of a spat between her and Material Girl after tweeting joke about gay icon's 54th birthday

Gay icon Cher fuelled rumors of a spat between her and Madonna after joking on Twitter that she 'got a colonic' for the Material Girl's birthday.

But not everyone saw the funny side of the Believe singer's gag today (21 August), with followers accusing her of hating Madge, who celebrated turning 54 last week.

Cher was forced to explain herself, tweeting: 'Ok i know you guys r going 2 go all "oh yeah Cher hates Madge" Thats NOT TRUE! just couldn't let Joke go by! It was Funny 2 ME. Don't B babies X'

Gay icon has not released album of new material since 2001

Cher has been in the recording studio and has let fans know, via Twitter, that her first new album of original music in more than a decade will be out in December.

The 66-year-old gay icon told the first single from the untitled album will be released in October.

Cher regularly communicates with fans on Twitter but she still knows when to hold back when it comes to the business of her career which is still going strong after 47 years in the spotlight.

“Cant tell names of songs cause Record CO. gave Strict ORDERS !” she tweeted.

Gay icon Cher wishes she could turn back time after Twitter followers turned on her for making a sly dig at Madonna.

'WTF is MDNA?', the Believe singer tweeted before posting a sarcastic comment about the record's name once fans explained it was a play on words referring to the party drug MDMA, more commonly known as ecstacy.

'How tasteful!' Cher replied and then revealed her unflattering nickname for the Material Girl.

'I had nickname for her? Back in the day had to say sorry Madge! It was uncouth', she said.

Gay icon Cher has spoken out about her fans in response to the backlash after she openly supported preacher Joel Osteen.

Cher caused controversy among her followers on Twitter on Monday (2 July) when she talked about Osteen, a preacher who said on multiple occasions that being gay is a sin.

The ‘Believe’ singer tweeted: ‘I love Joel Osteen, he's example of Christian! He makes everyone feel welcome to his church no matter who they are!’
