Leading LGB advocate, known for his sharp wit and tireless work ethic, will be stepping down as Chief Executive of British gay lobbying charity Stonewall

Ben Summerskill will be stepping down as Chief Executive of UK gay, bisexual and lesbian charity Stonewall, it was announced today (23 January).

After 11 years at the helm, he has seen gay rights change in this country from the repeal of Section 28 to same-sex marriage in England and Wales.

He will be leaving to enjoy some time off and to take a breather from his tireless work over the past decade.

Insisting the decision is not over Putin’s anti-gay laws banning ‘homosexual propaganda’ the UK Prime Minister is the latest to join heads of government in not attending the upcoming Winter Olympics

The UK Prime Minister David Cameron announced he will not be attending February’s Winter Olympics.

According to The Independent, 10 Downing Street said the decision has nothing to do with the recent wave of cricism over Putin’s anti-gay laws.

‘The PM believes in engagement. He doesn’t think that boycotts and grand gestures achieve much,’ said his representatives.

Politicians fighting for gay marriage as evangelists claim gays pass on HIV using 'special rings', Stonewall names their winners

Several names were nominated, but only one is the biggest bigot of them all.

At the seventh annual UK-based gay rights charity Stonewall held tonight (7 November), US TV evangelist Pat Robertson was named 2013’s Bigot of the Year.

In August, he made international headlines when he claimed gay men viciously spread HIV while shaking hands using ‘special rings’.

He ‘won’ the award over Scott Lively, on trial for crimes against humanity against Ugandan LGBT people, British vicar George Gabauer, UKIP candidate Winston McKenzie and historian Niall Ferguson.

A Christian group has lodged a legal challenge against London bus ads featuring ‘Some People Are Gay, Get Over It!’

Core Issues Trust, a ‘gay cure’ organization, has lodged papers at the High Court attempting to force Transport for London to take down the billboards.

They claim the transport chiefs are deliberately ignoring a ruling by High Court, which judged the posters from gay rights group Stonewall to be ‘highly offensive to fundamentalist Christians’ who believe ‘gay sex is a sin’.

A French hero of same-sex marriage has won a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin was honored at the European Diversity Awards last night (26 September).

The former health, sport and the environment minister made headlines in 2010 by condemning Pope Benedict when he said condoms actually promote AIDS. And she was a long-term champion of same-sex marriage.

British supermarket Tesco is selling an inflatable gay best friend to bitch with you.

The retro and novelty toy, which is ‘always ready to give you fashion advice’ and has an age range of three to four, has caused controversy by being sold online.

‘Gay’ is also censored on the supermarket’s website.

‘If SEX in the City and Will & Grace taught us anything, it's that g*y best friends are in this season,’ it states.

Gay people in the UK still expect to face discrimination in their day to day lives.

A new study published by UK gay rights charity Stonewall has shown that despite advances in legal equality, lesbians, gays and bisexuals still fear discrimination from schools, hospitals, the workplace and police forces because of their sexual orientation.

The NDAs is the UK’s largest award ceremony celebrating diversity and honoring the achievements of those who have made a difference with their contribution to society.

Ben Summerskill, chief executive of one of the most prominent gay campaigning charities in the UK, is shortlisted for the prestigious 'Lifetime Achiever' award.

While the category is not LGBT specific, he is being acknowledged for his work as an advocate for gay rights.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron has said he would like to ‘export’ same-sex marriage around the world.

The Conservative leader has spoken of his pride at legalizing equal marriage in England and Wales, claiming to be the only right-wing leader in any country to do so.

Child of Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge will be brought up in a country where same-sex marriage is legal

Four in five Brits would be comfortable for the first child of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge to grow up gay.

While we do not even know the name of the child, it does not stop the world wondering what the royal baby will be like.

The baby was born at 4.24pm on Monday weighing 8lb 6oz (3.798kg), with Prince William at his wife's bedside at St Mary's Hospital in London.

The BBC has apologized for airing a debate on a radio show where a comedian said he could ‘cure’ gay broadcaster Clare Balding.

Colin Murray and Bob Mills were hosting the live quiz show Fighting Talk on Radio 5 when they began making disparaging remarks about Balding’s sexual orientation.

A man who killed a gay teen with Asperger's syndrome by burning him alive was sentenced for only three and a half years

The Attorney General has told the Court of Appeals to review the sentence of a man who was given just 42 months jail for burning a gay teen to death, Gay Star News has learned.

Steven Simpson, who had Asperger’s syndrome, a speech impairment and epilepsy was celebrating his 18th birthday when the incident happened in the early hours of 23 June last year.

As he became more drunk, homophobic insults were scrawled on his arm and stomach and he was encouraged to strip to his underwear and dance.

A Christian group is accusing Boris Johnson of mishandling a ban on anti-gay posters from London public transport.

According to the Telegraph, The Christian Legal Centre is accusing Johnson of a ‘cover up’, saying the mayor pressured officials into banning the anti-gay ads that read 'Not Gay! Ex-Gay, Post-Gay and Proud. Get Over It!'.

The Christian Legal Centre has submitted a request under the Freedom of Information Act to see all the documentation involved in the case.

Motor racing star Sir Stirling Moss has said he does not want a ‘poofter’ to play him in a film.

In an interview where the former Formula One driver made the offensive comments, he said he would like James Bond actor Daniel Craig to portray him.

The 83-year-old said: ‘I hope the actor would be masculine – not a poofter or anything like that. Perhaps the guy from Skyfall.’

A gay couple has said they were refused a double room at a London hotel.

Nick Hurley, 22, and Gavin Maclean, 28, from Manchester, had booked a double room online at the Thistle City Barbican hotel in central London for 23 February.

They had planned to go and see two plays in the UK capital’s West End, but were ‘shocked’ when they were faced with homophobic treatment.

Sir Roger Gale makes reference to incest while speaking out agianst marriage equality in the House of Commons

A Conservative member of parliament has said if the UK government is serious about equality, they should create civil unions that include incestuous relationships.

Sir Roger Gale, who was knighted in the 2012 New Year Honours List, said a way forward in achieving equality would be abolishing civil partnerships and creating a new form of civil union for people of all sexualities.

The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill will have its second reading and be debated for the first time in the House of Commons on 5 February.

The YouGov poll also found support rose to 96% of gay people aged 35 and under.

Britain’s leading gay campaign organization asks supporters, gay and straight, to contact their Members of Parliament as same-sex marriage debate nears

Stonewall, Britain’s leading gay campaign organization, has urged its supporters to contact their Members of Parliament (MPs) and ask them to support equal marriage.

The call for help comes as the UK government publishes its Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill – which would equalize marriage laws in England and Wales. Separate legislation is being developed by the Scottish parliament.
