Elton John’s bass player has been found dead in Los Angeles.

The body of Robert Wayne Birch was found in the early hours of Wednesday morning (15 August) in the San Fernando Valley.

It is thought that the bass player and saxophonist died from a gunshot wound to the head, reported the BBC.

LA County Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter said that the case was ‘being investigated as a possible suicide.’

Gay singer Sir Elton John is back at the top of the UK album chart for the first time in two decades

Sir Elton John is back at the top of the UK album chart with Good Morning to the Night, his first number one in 22 years.

The album is a collaboration with Australian electro duo Pnau and sees his back catalogue from the 1970s refashioned into eight new songs.

It went straight into the charts at number one, bumping off singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner’s album Write It On Your Skin.

His last similar success was in November 1990 with his greatest hits album, The Very Best of Elton John.

Never one to mince words, Elton John paid tribute to the late Donna Summer and in the same statement, blasted The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for passing her over when she was nominated this year.

'Her records sound as good today as they ever did,' he said of Summer who died Thursday (17 May) at the age of 63. 'That she has never been inducted into the Rock `n' Roll Hall of Fame is a total disgrace especially when I see the second-rate talent that has been inducted.'

Elton John’s husband, David Furnish, has again confirmed that the celebrity pair are planning to have a second child.

Furnish told London’s Evening Standard that they may go back to the same egg donor again or may be forced to seek another surrogate.

The 49-year-old who became pop superstar John’s civil partner in 2005 said they felt their one-year-old son Zachary needs a sibling but they won’t finalize plans until this summer.

Sir Elton John is reportedly planning to have another baby.

The Rocket Man singer and his partner David Furnish – who welcomed son Zachary by a surrogate on Christmas Day 2010 – are apparently hoping to give him a little brother or sister by the end of the year.

A source told the Daily Mirror: ‘The wheels are in motion. David and Elton have never hidden their desire to extend their family, and believe the time is right for another child.

A new play which aims to challenge gay stereotypes and masculinity through fighting hits London next month.

Shadow Boxing, by Bad Girls and Billy Elliot actor James Gaddas, is billed as 'a high-impact show about a boxer facing his toughest opponents yet - his personal demons'.

It stars Jonny Collis-Scurll as Flynn, a boy determined to become a successful boxer and not end up like his father, who never won a fight.

Sir Elton John claims his new record is ‘the most exciting’ he has made in a ‘long, long time’.

The world’s most famous gay singer has gone back to basics with The Diving Board, recording it with just piano, bass and drums backing his voice at the suggestion of producer T Bone Burnett.

He told Rolling Stone magazine: ‘It was T Bone's idea to get back with piano, bass and drums. He said, “Let’s start with that.”’

Sir Elton John and David Furnish have counseling to discuss the growth of their son Zachary.

The couple – who welcomed their first son on Christmas day 2010 – are concerned about him getting ‘doubly stigmatized’ because of his unusual upbringing and have taken advice on how to deal with it when he gets older.

Furnish, 49, said: ‘We're going to raise him to be proud of who he is and understand that he came from a relationship that was taking the love we have for each other to a more dedicated and committed level.

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran received a congratulatory phone call from mentor Elton John wishing him good luck following the announcement of the Brit Award nominees last Thursday.

Sheeran, 21, leads this year's awards with four nominations for Best Male Solo Act, Best Breakthrough Act, Mastercard British Album of the Year for his album + and Best British Single for his song A Team.

Sheeran told The Sun: 'I speak to Elton on a weekly basis. He's very involved. I got a talk from him after the BRITs nominations.
