'I will do my best to not disappoint the gay audience'

Just two weeks after announcing to the world that he is a 'proud gay man,' pro boxer Orlando Cruz stepped back into the ring and suddenly felt even more pressure to beat his opponent, Jorge Pazos.

'I had to win that fight,' Cruz tells The Advocate.

Had he lost, he says, he would have been 'taunted and harassed. I knew I had to win, I felt the pressure.'

Joke article claims the former boxing world champion is now called Michelle and keeps his penis in a jar by his bedside

Newspapers in Africa have fallen for a spoof story about heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson becoming a transgender woman.

The article, which was originally published by UK-based satirical website NewsBiscuit in November, reported the former world champion would now be called Michelle.

The author who goes by the name of Uncle Bertie wrote that the 16-hour gender reassignment surgery at a Beverly Hills clinic was a 'complete success'.

First openly gay man to compete professionally boxing has spoken out about being a role model

Orlando Cruz, the first professional boxer to come out as gay, has spoken out about being gay in an extremely macho world.

The 31-year-old Puerto Rican said boxing is a sport largely dominated by men who think gays have to conform to a very specific stereotype.

In an interview with Spiegel Online, he said the spectators had accepted him.

Tyson Fury admits he sent a homophobic tweet about another boxer but said a comments saying that gay people should be killed was sent by his cousins - for which they would now pay

British boxer Tyson Fury has apologized for sending a series of homophobic tweets to rival boxer David Price but claims that a tweet that said all gay people should be killed was sent by someone else.

Fury admitted sending a tweet that read ‘David Price, I'm going to put you in intensive care, that's for sure mate. And you know your gay lover Tony Bellew? He's got to fight me in between the rounds as well. I want the two of you, you pair of tossers’

However he denied sending one that came from his Twitter account that read ‘dont like gays shoul all b shot dead.’

Puerto Rican boxer Orlando Cruz says he came out because he wants to become the first openly gay world champion.

Cruz, who is ranked the number four featherweight by the World Boxing Organization, went public about his sexuality on 4 October, describing himself as a 'proud gay man'.

A featherweight Puerto Rico boxer has claimed to be the first openly gay man to come out and continue competing in the professional sport’s history.

Orlando Cruz, ranked the number four featherweight by the World Boxing Organization, said: ‘I’ve been fighting for more than 24 years and as I continue my ascendant career, I want to be true to myself.

‘I want to try to be the best role model I can be for kids who might look into boxing as a sport and a professional career.

Boxing champion Nicola Adams proved she is a knock-out in the club as well as the ring after being spotted celebrating winning Olympic gold at G-A-Y.

The first time games winner was smiling ear to ear when out enjoying drinks with friends in one of central London's biggest gay clubs on Saturday (11 August).

Club promoter Jeremy Joseph told Gay Star News: ‘She was really nice. You don’t expect it really. I kept thinking, you are far too nice - how is it that you can floor someone in the ring and be this nice?

Filipino world champion boxer Manny Pacquiao has denied quoting a violent anti-gay passage of the Bible and defended his opposition to gay marriage after a backlash.

National Conservative Examiner published an article last weekend in which it appeared Pacquiao, who is also a congressman in the Philippines, quoted a Bible passage from Leviticus that says gay people ‘must be put to death’.
