Rainbow crosswalks to be permanent in West Hollywood

Intersection at heart of gay district originally painted for pride month

During LGBT Pride Month in June, the crosswalks spanning the intersection of San Vicente and Santa Monica boulevards in the heart of West Hollywood were transformed from brick red to the colors of the rainbow flag that symbolizes gay pride.

Now the transformation will be permanent.

The West Hollywood City Council voted this week to keep the rainbow crosswalks in the section of the city known as Boystown where such popular spots as The Abbey attract tourists and locals alike.

LGBT groups to demonstrate against Chicago's Catholic leader for comparing them to the Ku Klux Klan

A group of LGBT activists in Chicago plan to demonstrate against Cardinal Francis George on Sunday in an effort to get the leader of the city's Catholic Church to apologize for comparing them to the Ku Klux Klan.

Participating in a demonstration in front of Holy Name Cathedral will be the Rainbow Sash Movement and the Gay Liberation Movement who have the  support of Equality Illinois.

Truth Wins Out's ad demanding Catholic leader's resignation will appear in Sunday's edition of the Chicago Tribune

Chicago's Archbishop Francis George is standing by his analogy comparing the LGBT community to the Ku Klux Klan leading Truth Wins Out to step-up pressure on him to resign.

The nonprofit organization, which fights against anti-LGBT extremism, is placing a full page ad in Sunday's Chicago Tribune with the headline 'Hey, Cardinal Francis George, Gay is not like the KKK.'

Cardinal Francis George had likened gay activists to the Ku Klux Klan

Cardinal Francis George does not want Chicago's Gay Pride Parade route to go by one of the city's oldest Roman Catholic chuches even though it is located just outside the city's famous Boystown neighborhood.

The LGBT community is calling for the resignation of Chicago's Roman Catholic leader is under fire for saying he believes the June parade could lead to a situation where marchers morph 'into something like the Ku Klux Klan, demonstrating in the streets against Catholicism.'
