After more than a month of controversy, the Motion Picture Association of America has reached a compromise with the filmmaker and given the documentary Bully a PG-13 rating instead of an R.

Kathy Griffin has spoken out against bullying in a public service announcement inspired by the documentary Bully.

The gay friendly comic created the PSA in response to the film that explores children’s stories as they face being bullied every day.

The film released tomorrow (30 March) in select US cinemas has drawn controversy over the Motion Picture Association of America’s initial decision to award it an ‘R’ rating, meaning people under 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult to see it.

With the Motion Picture Association of America refusing to budge on the R rating it has slapped on the documentary Bully, the film's distributor announced Monday (26 March) that it would release the movie unrated.

The film is about the epidemic of bullying in schools and got the R rating because of profanities some of the kids use in the movie.

A-listers join the fight to get film's rating changed from R to PG-13

Three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep, superstar Johnny Depp and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees have signed a petition started by a Michigan teenager who is trying to get the Motion Picture Assn. of America to change the rating of a documentary about the epidemic of bullying in schools.

Bully, set to be on March 30, has been slapped with an R rating by the MPAA - a rating that prevents anyone under the age of 17 from seeing the movie without an adult.
