Analouisa Valencia, 19, wants how to show pageant judges ‘how passionate I am for being an advocate for equality’

A biracial teen girl could make history as the first lesbian Miss South Carolina.

Analouisa Valencia, 19, has already won her hometown’s beauty queen title, Miss Lyman.

In July she will compete for South Carolina’s state crown, and if she wins, will go on to vie for the coveted Miss USA crown.

‘I want to show the judges who I really am,’ said Valencia in an interview with CNN.

‘I just really wanted to be an advocate for equality for everyone this year.’

'I wish we had the show the first year that we ended up with the second year'

If Anderson Cooper had to do it all over again, his foray into daytime talk shows would have been more Live With Kelly and Michael from the start than a pale imitation of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Cooper's show, Anderson Live! was canceled last fall during the early weeks of its second season. But since that time, it has found its groove with a live format and a rotating array of guest co-hosts including Andy Cohen, Kathy Griffin and Kristin Chenoweth.

Maine's former Senator Olympia Snowe reveals she now stands for marriage equality

Olympia Snowe, the ex-Senator of Maine, stated yesterday (5 April) she now supports marriage equality.

'I think obviously this has evolved over time on the whole issue for the whole country and the nation,' she said to CNN, as reported by the newspaper the Portland Press Herald. 'We've seen a sea change in society's whole attitude on this particular issue and it's only natural for government to be responsive to those changes.'

Cooper's CNN colleague Howard Kurtz reports he's not interested

Anderson Cooper has not yet commented on reports that NBC News has approached him about taking over Matt Lauer's job as host of The Today Show.

But his CNN colleague Howard Kurtz, host of the show Reliable Sources, reported on Sunday (31 March) that Cooper is not interested in the gig.

Kurtz said Cooper, who hosts a nightly show Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN, prefers to stay with the cable network.

'The cost was great in asking me not to speak candidly'

Kwame Harris, who played offensive tackle for San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders, says it was very difficult for him to be a closeted gay player in the National Football League.

'The cost was great in asking me to not speak candidly, or (to not) be able to speak openly about myself in a complete manner,' he tells CNN.

Harris never came out as gay during when he played for the 49ers from 2003-2007 or with the Raiders in 2008.

With Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show ending soon, the CNN star has some intriguing possible gigs including a show with pal Kathy Griffin and becoming host of NBC's The Today Show.

Deadline is reporting that Cooper and Griffin, who have co-hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage for at least six years, filmed a pilot this week at CNN studios in New York.

Details are sketchy but it was filmed in front of a live audience that included new CNN boss Jeff Zucker.

Beleagured singer Michelle Shocked said today that her onstage rant against gay marriage has been misinterpreted and that she is not in any way anti-gay.

'I do not, nor have I ever, said or believed that God hates homosexuals (or anyone else). I said that some of His followers believe that,' the singer tells CNN in a statement.

Madonna honors TV journalist Anderson Cooper with a trophy at the GLAAD Media awards in New York 

Pop star Madonna presented CNN’s anchorman Anderson Cooper with a US gay media watchdog's top award in recognition of his standing and accomplishment as an openly gay journalist.

Presenting the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) watchdog’s award to Cooper, Madonna up dressed yesterday (16 March) as a Boy Scout Of America, complete with a brimmed hat and sporting a blonde locks hairdo.

She called upon the organization to ‘change their stupid rules’ and end the ban on gay youth.

Republican Senator Rob Portman, once a vocal critic of same-sex marriage and one of the top picks to run for Vice President of the United States alongside Mitt Romney, has publicly announced a change of heart on the issue.

Portman changed his mind after his son Will came out to him and his wife Jane.

‘I'm announcing today a change of heart on an issue that a lot of people feel strongly about that has to do with gay couples' opportunity to marry,’ Portman told CNN.

The gay son of Ohio Senator Rob Portman tweeted today he is 'especially proud of my dad' who's become the highest-profile Republican to support gay marriage.

Portman told CNN that after his son, Will Portman, came out to him, he began to rethink his previous position against gay marriage. He said his son told him 'it was not a choice' and that 'it's just part of who he is.'

But, he thinks it could get a little tricky in the locker room for some players.

Anderson Cooper may be a major celebrity himself, but the daytime talk show host and CNN anchor can still get a bit starstruck.

On today's episode of Anderson Live! show, Cooper talked with guest co-host Lisa Rinna about receiving the Vito Russo Award later this month at the GLAAD Media Awards.

'I'm incredibly excited,' Cooper said. 'Madonna? Are you kidding me? I sort of don't believe it's true.'

Madonna will be presenting the award on 16 March at GLAAD's award ceremony in New York City.

The upcoming GLAAD Media Awards instantly turned a little bit more fabulous-er. The media rights organization announced today (2 March) Madonna will make a presentation to Anderson Cooper.

Madonna will give the CNN reporter the Vito Russo Award on 16 March.

'From speaking out against bullying to raising support for marriage equality, Madonna has always been one of our community's strongest allies, said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick in a statement. 'We are honored to have her stand with GLAAD and Anderson Cooper.'

Don Lemon was watching last week's Golden Globe Award when Jodie Foster took to the stage to accept the Cecil B. Demille Lifetime Achievement Award and to, after decades of speculation, confirmed to the world that she is a lesbian.

Richard Blanco had already made history as the first gay and first Latino inaugural poet in US history when he stepped onto the podium Monday (21 January) to deliver his poem One Today.

But he had no idea that day would be so history making in other ways in the fight for LGBT equality. President Barack Obama likened to the gay rights movement's Stonewall Riots to the civil rights milestones Seneca Falls (women's equality) and Selma (black equality).
